Things to Do in St. John’s

  • East Coast Trail - there are over 336 kms to enjoy walks, hikes, whales, cliffs, historic sites, lighthouses, and more.

  • North Head Trail - a picturesque city hike of 1.7 kms and descends 500 ft from historic Signal Hill down to The Battery

  • Rennies River Trail is a peaceful 2.9km walking trail in the city, one of the locals’ favourites.

  • The Battery - enjoy a lovely walk down to colourful wooden homes on the cliffs of the harbour. This walk is rated one of the best walks in the world.

  • Get screeched in at Christian’s Pub. The best place to become an honorary Newfoundlander.

  • Experience the best fish and chips at The Duke of Duckworth.

  • George Street - a street with many pubs and bars with live music daily.

  • Jellybean Row - stroll the streets downtown and enjoy the mix of old, colorful homes. There is no specific area, so explore all the streets and alleys downtown.

  • Terry Fox Monument - a beautiful tribute to a Canadian hero who started his journey here.

  • The Rooms - a modern art gallery and museum with the largest Newfoundland culture and history collection. The cafe is fantastic, too.

  • The Geo Centre - is one of Canada’s unique science centers.

  • Newman’s Wine Vault - a historic wine cellar of over 300 years.

  • The Basilica of St John the Baptist - a local cathedral built by Irish immigrants in 1838. Ask to see the veiled virgin statue from the Italian sculptor Giovanni Strazza in 1818, located next door at the Presentation Convent Museum.

  • MUN Botanical Gardens - the province’s premier botanical garden with a native display of plants and flowers. The Postmaster’s Garden Cafe is a lovely way to end the day.

  • The Commissariat House - was built in 1820 for the British supply house and offices.

  • Downtown shops, cafes, and Canadian-renowned restaurants

  • Whales and Puffins (June, July, and early August )and iceberg tours (mid-April until the end of June) Iceberg Quest in the Harbour or O’Brien’s or Gatheralls in Bay Bulls

  • Live theatre - Spirit of Newfoundland is an outstanding dinner theatre

  • Beautiful parks - Bannerman and Pippy Park with festivals throughout the Summer

  • Fishing- we can connect you with a local fisherman for cod jigging in season

  • St John’s Farmers Market every Saturday with local artisans and vendors

  • Quidi Vidi - a beautiful fishing village in the city

 

Things to Do Outside the City Limits

Cape Spear - with the oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland and the most eastern point of North America

Petty Harbour- a vibrant, beautiful fishing village. It also features North Atlantic Ziplines - 10 zip lines ranging from 300 to 2200 feet.

Portugal Cove and Bell Island

Middle Cove, Outer Cove, and Pouch Cove for lovely scenery and beaches

Ferryland - experience the fantastic Lighthouse Picnics

Brigus, Bay Roberts, Carbonear, The Irish Loop are all lovely day trips
